Summer in India Application Now Online

LITEE, through NSF’s International Research Experiences for Students (IRES) Program, offers Auburn University students an opportunity to conduct research for two months in India.

Students selected to participate register for a 1-credit-hour course in the Spring of '12. During this class, which will meet once a week, participants do some preliminary research, learn how to create a case study, and learn about living in India. Students spend two months over the summer living in India and working with industrial and academic professionals doing research. They gather information about a particular real-world problem and later document it in a case study. Upon their return to Auburn, students spend the Fall in another 1-credit-hour class further developing the case study.

So, what's a case study? LITEE case studies are instructional tools that describe real-world problems that students in engineering and business classes can learn from. It's kind of like a web site, explaining the background of the problem and providing alternative solutions. Case studies typically have lots of text and pictures and sometimes a few videos or other multimedia. All of our case studies (many from past student projects) are available online at www.liteecases.com.

To apply, please go to https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/iresapplication_2012 and fill out the online application. If you have any questions, please email kristen(dot)billy (at) gmail(dot) com.

Welcome to LITEE at Auburn University

The LITEE program is exceptional because its educational paradigm consists of developing multimedia cases based on real-world problems. The cases are implemented in classrooms using an innovative instructional strategy and are readily transferable to other institutions. Using the case studies in classrooms leads to perceived improvements in the leadership skills and attitudes of engineering and technology students at the high school, undergraduate, and graduate levels. The case studies have been used successfully in 21 universities and 3 high schools.

The LITEE program inspires graduate students to create real-world case studies that facilitate hands-on learning of leadership skills and attitudes by future engineers.

A survey of LITEE alumni shows that they perceive a significant improvement in their leadership skills and attitudes due to their participation in this cross-disciplinary program.

You can view and download free copies of some of the case studies from www.liteecases.com. Other formats, including PDF files, CD-ROMs, and online versions of all the case studies are available for purchase at LITEE's storefront at www.lulu.com/litee_cases.
